Day / Night Project
A project comparing the lighting of a space by day and in the evening.
Rooms with a view are photographed twice — once during the day and once after sunset — from the exact same perspective.
This direct comparison makes visible how light, atmosphere and the overall perception of a space shift over time.
Berlin: Presidential Suite of Waldorf Astoria Berlin
Objective:
The aim was to isolate the effect of light on a space and to show how strongly it influences atmosphere, depth and spatial perception.
By keeping perspective, framing and composition identical, the only variable becomes the light itself.
Approach:
The project follows a controlled and precise approach.
Each image is captured from the same camera position, using the same framing and composition, allowing for a direct comparison between day and night.
The focus is not on staging, but on observing how natural light conditions define the character of a space.
Execution:
Two images are created for each scene:
Daytime image: captured approximately two hours before sunset
Evening image: captured shortly after sunset during blue hour
Both images are taken from the same tripod position with identical framing.
Available light forms the basis of the image and is carefully complemented where needed, following the same principles applied in all hotel photography work.
Result & Impact:
The resulting images show that the same space can feel different depending on the time of day.
They demonstrate how atmosphere and the overall perception of a space change with light.
